According to Agriculture CS Will Bett, the multi-billion shillings initiative will be jointly carried out by the national government in conjunction with the county governments in a bid to revitalise the livestock and exports market.

CS Bett said Kenya, as a country, was eager to break into the international livestock markets by complying with all health standards as demanded by the international buyers.

The vaccination campaign is aimed at eradicating livestock ailments, especially Foot and Mouth Diseases, and the East Coast Fever, which are very prevalent in most livestock rearing regions.

The CS further noted that Kenya has been performing dismally in livestock exports due to high prevalence of diseases that make the country’s livestock unattractive for international buyers.

“We now aim to have all livestock across the counties vaccinated to eliminate livestock diseases, especially Foot and Mouth Disease and East-Coast Fever. We hope to be declared a Disease Free Country so that our livestock products can be competitive in international market,” he said.
