Miguna unveiled Gathugu as his running mate on Saturday at a city hotel.
Gathugu was a student leader at Laikipia University.
The former advisor to Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga said he wanted to inject youth blood into the city leadership that he said was lacking.
“Kenyans have functioning brains. They can tell the difference a transformative leadership and one based on impunity. And we are not afraid of anybody. They can come with any money they have stolen and we will deal with them,” said Miguna.

However, his choice was heavily criticised by the Senior Counsel, who argued that both Miguna and Gathugu were too inexperienced to beat the likes of Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko come August 8.
“A political dwarf picks a political pygmy as a running mate,” Ahmednasir commented on Twitter.
The gubernatorial aspirant, however, did not respond to Ahmednasir’s comments.
Miguna is vying for Nairobi’s top elective seat as an independent candidate.
