Kisii county farmers have something to smile about as Kenya marks 53 years of self-governance after Governor James Ongwae announced a reduction in the fees charged for Artificial Insemination services.
On his Madaraka Day address to the county at Gusii Stadium, Governor Ongwae said that his government is committed to ensuring that the residents have sustainable income and enough food.
He further said that his government has set aside Sh22 million for Artificial Insemination services for livestock farmers to ensure that they get a variety of productive breeds.
“The services that have been offered in the recent past for Sh1500 will now be offered at a fee of Sh500”, Ongwae promised.
He also said that the county government together with the national government are following up to write off the Sh600 million debt of agricultural corporations as the president had promised on his recent visit to Kisii county. This is a way of improving the coffee sector in Kisii region.
