The Africa Inland Church (AIC) has added its voice to the ongoing same-sex marriage debate saying the practice is unbiblical.

Speaking on Sunday at AIC in Kisii during an ordination ceremony of two pastors, Nyanza region bishop Reverend Philip Osenya called on church members to be cautious of ‘western civilisation’.

Osenya said same-sex unions are not featured anywhere in the Bible or even in the African culture. He said the practice would alienate the church from spiritual truth if embraced.

“I have never heard that a man and a man or a woman and a woman have produced children. God had the purpose of creating a man and woman for procreation. Therefore, anybody campaigning for this vice is taking the religion and universe downward,” warned the Bishop.

He said gay marriages will lead the church into anarchism and called on members and the clergy to give it a wide berth.

“What we have embraced as civilisation is actually woe and suffering to our nations. We have cast away the core values to embrace a foreign gospel,” he said.

During the service, two pastors, Victor Mose and Samuel Momanyi were ordained as reverends in the service attended by hundreds of faithful.

He said nations imposing the same-sex marriage recognition have detached themselves from God and had no moral mandate to force it on Africans.

On the other hand, Bishop Osenya called on the church to be in forefront in warding off moral decay in society.

“The clergy must stand up and point out ills in various communities in Kenya if we want to be examples to our sons and daughters. If we cannot address social ills in the society, we will take our children the Sodom and Gomorrah way,” he said.
