Property listings on site Airbnb ahve indicated an increase of 57 per cent with 5,900 vacational rental sites for the month of September.

The US firm also released data that showed more than 39,500 guests were hosted in Kenya from January to September.

Households that rented out their homes made around Sh40 million through Airbnb.

“The collective earnings from hosting on Airbnb for Kenyans increased by 106 (per cent) compared to the previous year,” says Airbnb in a statistical release.

Airbnb has made life difficult more the travel market by offering users alternative rental housing options for tourists.

Kenya's neighboring country Tanzania has did not do as well as Airbnb data shows they only listed 2,300 homes. However, hosts managed to make Sh103,750 which is more then their Kenyan counterparts.

As the demand for home rental increases Airbnb will be looking to provide tourists with more rental options.
