Less that five months after launching daily flights to Kisumu from Nairobi's Wilson Airport, Silverstone Air has made another first by launching direct flights from Kisumu to the Mombasa International Airport.
The initiative, according to Kisumu leaders is set to revolutionise trade and tourism between the Lake Region Economic Block Counties and Coast region.
Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch who was present to witness the launch said when the aviation history of Kisumu is written, Silverstone will grace those hallowed pages.
"Kisumu County values the partnership and the services offered by this airline in promoting tourism, trade and ease of transportation and the county will always be at hand to offer any necessary support", Olago said.
The Sh10,000 one way flight and Sh20,000 return will ply the Kisumu-Mombasa route twice a week on Fridays and Sundays departing Kisumu at 1pm and arriving at the Coastal town at 2.30pm and setting off on the return path at 3pm and to land at the lakeside airport at 4.40pm.
To commemorate this maiden flight Silverstone offered free return ride to 32 selected passengers picked across the board including county government officers.
