Mobo telecommunication company Airtel is ripping big in Siaya county, home to opposition NASA alliance chief Raila Odinga, after the alliance announced an exodus out of giant service provider Safaricom.
NASA has accused Safaricom of working in cohorts with the ruling Jubilee Party to influence election results in the country allegations that have since been denied by the company.
Raila's team has since gone a step further to acquire their own Airtel sim cards in demonstration, with Odinga himself on Monday leading by example, a step that is now being followed by supporters not only from the county but nationally.
According to Onyango Fred, an area resident, Raila's calls for a boycott and decision to officially 'migrate' has inspired his supporters to dance to the tune.
''Now that we have seen our leader at the Airtel shop, that automatically means that Airtel is now the better option and not Safaricom,'' said Fred on Monday, as quoted by the Star.
However, this comes amid lamentations from Safaricom dealers, with the fraternity already thrown on the losing end only a few days since the sun was launched.
Speaking on KTN Monday, Safaricom Dealers Association Chair Ester Muchemi called upon the alliance to drop its boycott with 1 million jobs already at stake.
She said that the boycott will force them to further reduce their workforce to meet operational costs.
''This is purely bad politics, we urge politicians to sober up.We are choking, let them calm down and listen to us.Let them stick to politics and let us run the businesses,'' she is quoted.
