Airtel has registered an increase in the number of sales per day in the recent days.

This could be attributed to the call by NASA leaders asking their supporters to boycott products from Safaricom, Airtel's biggest competitor.

In Homabay, Governor Cyprian Awiti and Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata steered hundreds of residents to register their Airtel lines on Wednesday leading to a shortage of Airtel lines in the town.

"What Baba (Raila) says here is followed like a law. We will comply with it until he tells us 'otherwise'. We're disappointed with Safaricom if it can allow itself to engage in unhealthy deals," one of the supporters said.

Although the opposition believes that Safaricom was involved in an alleged rigging scheme by Jubilee Party leaders, the company has since denied with

chief executive Bob Collymore saying his "innocent" employees must never

be dragged into politics.

According to Homabay Airtel network manager Macrine Apete, they have registered more than 11,000 lines in the past week with majority being migrations from Safaricom.

"Our network lines have increased in sales. Most people say they are crossing over from Safaricom," she said.
