Airtel Kenya Chief Executive Officer Adil El Youseffi said the trial phase will cover 40 new sites in the city, then later be tested in Kisumu and Mombasa towns.

"Airtel Kenya remains committed to competing in the Kenyan market and providing choice to Kenyans by further investing in the roll out of 4G services and continued network expansion,'' said Adil El.

Airtel is trying to catch up with Safaricom Ltd, the leading telecommunication firm in Kenya.

Safaricom launched its 4G internet services countrywide in October 2016.
