Kilifi Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa has beaten Malindi MP Willy Mtengo in the ODM nominations.

Jumwa garnered 8,436 votes while his opponent managed 3,758 votes.

Returning Officer Samuel Ochieng’ declared Jumwa the winner on Sunday morning at around 3am at Barani Secondary school in Malindi, after tallying 23 polling stations across the constituency.

Speaking after the victory, Jumwa asked Mtengo to support her so that ODM can retain the seat after August 8 general election.

She will face Wiper Party’s Rashid Odhiambo, Dr Harry Mwimali (independent) and Philip Charo or peter Mwawana of Jubilee Party.

“I would also like to thank my supporters, the sitting MP Willy Mtengo and police officers who have ensured there are peaceful nominations,” she said.

She added, “it has been a success since nobody has been injured.”
