A section of opposition's NASA coalition supporters have criticised Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, after she declared her support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

The former Kilifi County Woman Representative on Sunday said Ruto was best suited to become the president come 2022 when Kenya will be holding a general election.

Jumwa, a strong ODM lawmaker, was speaking when Ruto visited Taita Taveta County, accompanied by area Governor Granton Samboja among other local and coast region leaders.

Her sentiments came days after her party leader Raila Odinga, held a truce meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, and agreed to work together to unite the country.

The remarks shocked most of the NASA coalition supporters who wondered why she would support Ruto, yet NASA coalition could sponsor a potential candidate for the 2022 election.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho had declared interest in succeeding incumbent President Kenyatta.

"We can not stop the idea which time has come. 2022, God willing, is William Samoei Ruto," she said during a church service in Voi.

Kenyans across the social media also questioned Jumwa's honesty and trust, with some saying she had betrayed Joho and NASA coalition.
