Senior members of the Ajuran community in Wajir County have endorsed Ahmed Nunoh as Governor Ahmed Abdullahi’s running mate.
They said the decision was arrived at following intense consultations.
Waqle Professionals and Governing Council Secretary General Ahmed Hefow said the community had settled on Nunoh as Abdullahi’s number two during the August 8 polls.
“In our shared mission of non-discriminatory development, peace and unity, we have endorsed Abdullahi for a second term and blessed Nunoh to be his running mate,” Hefow said.
He dismissed claims that a section of the community’s elders had rejected Nunoh, a high school teacher.
Five days before the declaration, there were reports that some elders led by Chairman Hassan Shobay had said there were no consultations before Nunoh’s endorsement was made.
Hefow said a nine-member committee voted and five backed Nunoh.
“First, we invited applications from clan members interested in deputising the incumbent. Three people, Mohamed Abdullahi Yahya, Daud Ibrahim and Ahmed Nunoh applied,” he said.
“Our role was to provide direction for the clan and identify the most qualified individual in the best interest of the people.”
