Police in Kisumu have arrested three suspects and a firearm recovered after raiding a house in Riat area in the outskirts of the town.

Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Willy Lugusa on Friday said police recovered an AK47, five rounds of ammunition, electronics and an assortment of household goods.

Lugusa said they got a tip-off from members of the public who raised suspicion over some tenants in the area.

He said police arrested the three suspects who then led the police to the house where the gun was recovered.

“The suspects led us to that house but unfortunately the owner of the house escaped. We are still looking for him,” he said.

Also recovered were cutters which the suspected criminals were said to be using to access homes.

Lugusa stated that due to the street lighting project initiated in various parts of Kisumu, most thieves have resorted to raiding homes in the outskirts of Kisumu such as Kanyamedha, Riat and Kibos areas which are not well lit.

He warned the criminals that police will not rest until sanity is brought to the lakeside city. The three will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

“This is a warning to criminals, surrender, reform or disappear from vicinity of Kisumu,” he said.
