The family of the late Ibrahim Akasha wants the government to explain the whereabouts of their sons and a friend, who were arrested and taken to an unknown destination.
Ibrahim Akasha, Gulam Hussein and Vijaygiri Anandgiri are facing drug-related charges, and were arrested after the police raided their house in Nyali on Saturday.
The whereabouts of Baktasha Akasha, who is also facing similar charges are unknown.
It is understood that officers from the anti-drug unit and anti-narcotics unit arrested them, and the family fear that they might have been extradited to the US in contravention of earlier court orders.
According to their lawyer Cliff Ombeta, the state shouldn’t have resorted to such means, following the court ruling which temporarily stopped the extradition process against the four suspects.
The four are out on bond and were expected in court on Monday.
“So we are asking the Inspector General or whoever is in charge of the police unit or the Director of CID to tell us where our people are and we need to know,” said Ombeta.
“There is a court order which is quite clear that these persons as long as they are having this case, they cannot be removed from this jurisdiction area unless they come to court and request,” he added.
Mombasa police boss Paterson Maelo has said investigations are underway.
