Former IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe has said political interference in IEBC’s work has rendered the commission’s work dysfunctional.

Speaking to the Daily Nation from New Jersey, USA, Akombe said that a clique of officials lead by CEO Ezra Chiloba bungled the august 8 elections.

According to Akombe, Chiloba’s decision to take leave ahead of the polls in of little consequence, as it will not guarantee a free and fair election.

Akombe resigned last week, citing an unconducive environment and wrongs that have dogged the commission that she could no longer defend.

She further painted a picture of a commission that had war within themselves, and also having opened doors to political interference.

She also claims that the little secretariat led by Chiloba almost littled almost all the commissioners’’ decisions, making it difficult for them to make any progress.

These members, she adds, enjoyed political support even from the chairman and other commoners who tried to bar them after the election was nullified.

She delivered a stinging criticism of the commission's secretary,  whom she accused of lying and misleading the commission on what was happening to the IEBC servers, which NASA claimed were hacked.
