Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to cancel the October 26, repeat presidential poll.

The MP says that the commission cannot purport to be ready for the repeat election when it has not addressed key electoral issues raised by the opposition and other stakeholders.

In an interview with KTN News on Tuesday, the MP also said that IEBC cannot go on with repeat election when NASA leader Raila Odinga has withdrawn from the race.

“The only option IEBC has now is to cancel the repeat election and get back to the drawing board for fair, transparent and credible presidential poll,” he said during the interview on Wednesday.

The NASA MP at the same time said that IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe’s resignation confirms the rot at the electoral agency.

Wamalwa alleged that IEBC has been unwilling to conduct credible repeat poll as ordered by the Supreme Court.

The MP claimed that IEBC is allegedly taking orders from the executive adding that NASA will not be part of the planned sham October 26 repeat poll.

“Akombe in his resignation letter confirms what we (NASA) has been saying that the IEBC is not ready for the repeat poll,” he added.

Akombe resigned on Wednesday morning, saying that the planned repeat presidential poll cannot meet the basics of a credible election.

The commissioner also claimed that commissioners are divided into partisan lines adding that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati is under siege.
