NASA leader Raila Odinga has admitted that he communicated secretly with former IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe, fuelling speculation that she may have been the opposition's mole in the commission. Raila said Dr Akombe was a heroine, for “outsmarting government officers" that were allegedly monitoring her conduct after the August 8 general election. "Her plan was very well calculated and she moved her family and luggage ahead of the Dubai trip while tricking the rest of the IEBC commissioners that she would join them only to land in New York,” Raila said during a rally at Keroka market in Kisii. The ODM leader revealed that he had called Dr Akombe immediately she was held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when she was leaving the country for the United States. "We talked and she told me that they had tried to strip her naked as they searched for any possible evidence and secrets of the annulled presidential poll,” the opposition chief said.Raila’s admission of his closeness with the former IEBC commissioner has left critics questioning their relationship and her role at the electoral body. The critics see the statement that Akombe gave when she resigned as being from NASA’s political talking points. “Akombe is a traitor to her country. The fact that she has been giving all manner of press conferences after resigning indicates she is furthering an agenda,” said David Karanja. “If you look at her interviews lately..she is literally saying what NASA is saying. She said the international community is quiet... NASA later issued a similar statement... She is a Raila puppet,” Kim Kinoti added.
