A member of the Akorino sect has been sentenced to serve life in prison by a Gatundu Court after he was found guilty of defiling a nine year old girl.
Mr Kelvin Ngugi Njeri was being accused of sexually assaulting the minor on diverse dates between 2011 and 2014, in Mangu location, Gatundu North in Kiambu County.
The accused person was facing an alternative charge of touching the minor’s genitals.
The court heard that the girl was at one time sent by her mother who was harvesting sweet potatoes in her aunt’s farm to take a sack to the accused.
Upon arriving at the accused’s house, the accused told the minor that he had seen her doing bad manners with a boy and that the boy had put dirt in her, which he wanted to remove.
Prosecutor Maximila Keitany told the court that the accused person then told the girl to remove her underpants and he defiled her.
After finishing the heinous act, the accused told her not to tell anyone or go to the hospital, otherwise she would bleed to death.
Prosecutor Keitany told the court that the accused person defiled the minor on different occasions even in an incomplete building.
The victim one day opened up to her sister who told the mother and the matter was reported to Mwea Police Post leading to the arrest of the accused.
The minor was taken to Igegania Sub-District hospital, where an examination revealed that her hymen was broken.
The accused person, however, denied the charges before the court and in mitigation told the court that there was bad relationship between him and the minor’s mother adding that it was mistaken identity.
Gatundu Senior Principal Magistrate Leticia Wachira dismissed his claims saying that the accused was well known to the victim as he worked for the family.
Magistrate Wachira in her ruling sentenced the accused to life in prison saying the prosecution has proven its case.
The accused person was, however, given 14 days to appeal the ruling.
