Bibirioni Chief James Mwangi has warned members of the Akorino sect against any resistance to have their children vaccinated against polio.
Mwangi warned members of the sect of contravening their children rights by denying them the life-saving vaccination.
“The children have a right to access the vaccination to avoid the risk of polio, so it will be important to have it administered,” said Mwangi.
The Administrator, who was speaking on Thursday at Bibirioni location in Limuru during a public meeting warned all those restricting their children from the vaccination that they will be dealt with by the law.
He was speaking after rescuing a number of children below five years, who had been denied the chance to access polio vaccine on grounds that their parents are members of Akorino sect that does not believe in medication but in divine power.
The chief, with the help of AP officers had raided one home of an Akorino adherent in the area and released a number of children who were locked in houses to avoid being administered with doses of the vaccine.
He thanked the members of the public for reporting the case, terming it as important and vital in preserving rights of the children.
Susan Waithera, a medical officer who is spearheading the campaign against polio urged the residents to brush off beliefs which jeopardise the lives of their children, and come out in large numbers to have their children receive the vaccination.
“The government has dedicated more resources in this campaign for your benefit and you should not turn down the offer,” said Waithera.
