In a move to wining public confidence on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, chairman Wafula Chebukati had said the United Nations through its UNDP wing will procure the ballot papers.
However, the government through the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has rejected the UNDP proposal leaving the embattled Dubai-based printing firm Al Ghurair as the official ballot paper printer for the October repeat polls.
IEBC top official were meeting on Sunday evening to discuss the budgetary allocation on the printing tender with Al-Ghurair, a company with which they have a two year contract.
The go ahead for the Dubai-based firm will come in as a blow to opposition coalition NASA who have accussed the firm of having a hand in bungling the August 8 polls.
NASA wants Al Ghurair out of the October polls among other changes they want effected before they can okay the repeat polls.
