Mandera governor Ali Roba has expressed concern that Al-Shaabab terrorists have successfully managed to isolate Mandera from the rest of the Country.
He said they have been targeting teachers to cripple the education sector, health workers to cripple the sector and the quarry workers to cripple the construction industry.
Now, he said they had moved to a new level of targeting the non-locals to isolate Mandera.
Citing the recent incident where the militants attacked and destroyed a Safaricom telecommunication mast at Elwak, Roba said: ''The isolation has now moved a notch higher by them targeting the communication networks within the County.''
"I believe with conviction as the governor of this county that the Al-Shaabab have a very bigger plan to cut off Mandera from the rest of the Country.''
According to him, the systematic implementation of their program was successfully taking place.
Now with the communication network getting targeted, Roba said it means that the moment they start running over Mandera, it would take a number of days before communication gets out.
"The government needs to seriously wake up to this reality. I do not understand as the governor of Mandera, why after the first mast was attacked sufficient security was not provided for all the masts in the County. The reality is Al-Shaabab are within the Kenyan border and they are within Mandera County,'' noted Roba.
