At least five youths from Nakuru County have been recruited by Al Shabaab and are already in training out of the country, the government has warned. Nakuru County Commissioner Mohamed Birik said that the youths were drawn from Bahati, Pipeline and Nakuru town. He was speaking during the inauguration of the county land commission on Tuesday. “We will meet and map out a proper strategy to ensure that everything that happens in the county is monitored,” he promised. The County commissioner emphasised the need by residents to take the Nyumba Kumi initiative seriously to prevent more recruitment. He lamented that majority of the residents only come to give them information after an incident has happened. He said they would hold a crisis meeting with university chancellors in the county to discuss how to boost security in the institutions. The county chief assured residents that the government has increased surveillance in public universities, major shopping malls and international schools following several terror scares. Birik called on the residents to accept court rulings regarding land disputes saying that the disagreements were often to blame for the conflicts that emerged.
