Suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked Dabacity in Elwak, Mandera County and destroyed a communication must belonging to one of Kenya's leading telecommunication firm.

According to Mandera County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia, the militants who came in unknown number, overpowered five Kenya Police Reservists (KPR) deployed to guard the Safaricom Ltd mast.

He said the officers tried as much as they could, to fight back but the attackers had more superior weapons, forcing them to scamper for safety.

Shisia noted the officers' intervention greatly helped in ensuring little damage to the mast, during the 1am, Monday attack.

He further affirmed that security had been heightened in the area, and the entire County, to avert further attacks.
