A group of Al-Shabaab militants have attacked Fafi centre, in Garissa County and destroyed a telecommunication mast.
Confirming the attack, Fafi Sub-County OCPD John Ogola said the police are pursing the militants following the night attack that has haulted communication in the area.
Police response to the site was slow out of fear of being affected by the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that may have been planted there.
Ogola said they were using alternative routes for fear of landmine attacks that have been used to kill several police officers in the last few days, adding that a team of police officers has been sent to the area to access the extent of the damage caused.
The OCPD however denied reports which claimed that the Somalia-based militia group Al-Shabaab started a fire at a primary school in Fafi sub-county.
“For now what I can confirm to you is that a Safaricom mast was destroyed and everything else said around are just rumours,” said Mr Ogola.
In the past two weeks over 13 soldiers and five civilians were killed in separates attacks after an IED allegedly planted by militants struck their vehicle in Garissa and Mandera Counties.
