Armed military personnel were on Friday deployed to man several roadblocks in North Eastern regions after it emerged that Al-Shabaab cells in Isiolo and Garissa may be planning to stage deadly attacks on Kenyan and British Army installations.
As published by a local daily, there are reports that Al-Shabaab terrorists have exploited loopholes in the country's security agencies, where they are now targeting frustrated officers who might be readily willing to join their rebel forces.
Security experts also reveal that the trend of highly trained police officers becoming radicalised is a dangerous trend that the country has to immediately and firmly deal with.
And as a security expert Major Rtd. Abdullahi Bashir says, the emerging trend is a disaster in waiting.
"These very people that we have fully entrusted with our lives are now turning against us instead of protecting. They are also turning against one another in the forces. This is a disaster in waiting if not swiftly dealt with," Bashir says.
It is only a week ago that an elite Recce squad commando tried to stage an attack at the GSU headquarters in Ruiru, raising widespread fears of possible radicalisation and extremism in the police force.
