The two members, one from Eldoret and another one from Mombasa are said to have leaked the information which led to the killing of the Al-Shabaab leader.

"The Islamic court in the Bay and Bakool regions carried out the executions of "four spies who worked for the US and Kenyan Intelligence Agencies," Al-Shabaab's Radio Al Andalus said.

Sources indicate that the two Kenyans with other two members from Tanzania were brutally killed in the open by the militia group in the region where they enjoy ample security.

This comes as the world powers like United States and United Kingdom point out that the militia group is on its deathbed following killings of its leaders in organised attacks.

The United States, together with the Kenya Military, have played a significant role in killing Al-Shabaab commanders through airstrikes, and the recent death of Godane marked a significant victory over the group.

However, with the imminent closure of the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Garissa, critics say that the move could lead to fresh reqruitment by the insurgent group which could help boost their operations.
