Ahmed Iman, the face of Al Shabaab in Kenya, wants to surrender to the police, the Daily Nation has reported.
The bearded man is known by Kenya's intelligence community as he has featured in a number of Shabaab's propaganda videos.
Reports indicate that Iman was close to the architects of the Garissa University attack that claimed the lives of at least 147 university students.
In one of the videos featuring him, Iman justified the massacre, saying it was meant to avenge the killings of extremist clerics in the country.
Intelligence officers have worked round the clock to arrest him but have so far he has successfully managed to avoid being arrested.
His capture would be a big win as he could offer the law enforcement agencies crucial intelligence about the inner working of Al Shabaab.
Kenya has been at the frontline of the war on terrorism, contributing troops in Somalia to fight Al Shabaab and help restore a semblance of stability to the country.
