The ongoing process to acquire Kisumu Governor's official residence may turn out to be the biggest scandal during the tenure of Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o, warns blogger Robert Alai.
The search for Prof. Nyong'o's official residence has dominated Kisumu politics for the last few weeks with critics of the devolved government claiming that the process may turn out to be fraudulent.
According to Alai, the house which the county government is set to acquire is located at Milimani next to Tom Mboya Labour College and has a valuation of Sh157 million. However, he claims that the county is determined to pay Sh300 million.
"The house Kisumu County wants to acquire as the residence of the governor was formerly owned by Ketan Somaia and is located near Tom Mboya Labour College in Kilimani. Experts value the house at Ksh. 157 million but the cartels have determined that the owner should be paid Ksh. 300 million. These cartels operate from the governor's office," Alai said in a post on his Facebook page.
While blaming Prof. Nyong'o of allegedly presiding over 'major corruption' in the lake city, Alai claims that the cartels operate in his (Nyong'o's) office and that they are people well known to him.
Here is Alai's full post:
Kisumu County governor Anyang' Nyong'o is leading individuals who are presiding over MAJOR corruption in the county.
The county has put its main priority now to buying "governor's house" and while they announced the request for proposals last week, key cartels in Kisumu have already set their eyes on which house they are going to buy and how much the county MUST pay for it.
The house Kisumu County wants to acquire as the residence of the governor was formerly owned by Ketan Somaia and is located near Tom Mboya Labour College in Milimani. Experts value the house at Ksh 157 million but the cartels have determined that the seller should be paid Ksh 300 million.
These cartels operate from the governor's office. While we might agree with Governor Nyong'o that Ksh 2,800 can't buy him proper lunch at Serena Hotel, I can tell you that Ksh 143 million difference between the actual valuation and intended payment can make a BIG difference on the life of the people of Kisumu. Governor Nyong'o is presiding over MAJOR corruption in Kisumu.
The cartels are so many and operate from his office. I personally believed that Nyong'o would have been a better governor for Kisumu. I am being proved wrong.
Omiyo Siaya people must not allow Nyong'o's twin, James Orengo, to become the governor of the county and loot it dry. I respect Orengo but I am really disappointed by what I have gathered. I am loyal to poor Kenyans who are suffering.
