Blogger Robert Alai is on a roll.
It seems that his tirade against ODM and its leadership is far from over. This is from what he terms as betrayal by the party he has for long fought to defend.
While congratulating Alan Wadi on his graduation, Alai brought to the fore issues of betrayal by those who had sworn to protect his friend.
“When we went to get Alan Wadi from jail last year, we didn't know we'd succeed. We launched an online fundraiser but the money raised (around Sh16,000) was not enough to pay legal fees,” he said.
He says that with Seth Odongo, they went to see Wadi in Athi River prison where he was just starting his sentence.
“The moment we left the prison, the warders realised who we were and orders were issued from above that Alai and his ilk not be allowed to see him again,” he says.
“We begged the Orange Party (ODM) to help fund the appeal. Orengo personally promised to help secure the funding for the appeal. We even approached Article 19. They too promised to help fund the appeal,” he added.
In expressing his disappointment, Alai says that ODM never honoured its promise to pay the lawyer who appealed against the jailing of Wadi.
“When I called Raila to ask, he told me that the party is not interested in such cases. The lawyer sent by Article 19 to help in the case NEVER appeared in court even once but collected the fees from Article 19. I later asked the Article 19 boss Henry Maina to which he said that the fee was too small to be made noise about. People need to be honest,” he said.
“Lt Wadi, please walk into the office of wakili Edward Oonge one day and just let him admire your achievement. I am so so happy for you. We just need to impact on the lives of each other. These politicians are crooks. They don't mean good,” he says.
According to Alai, lawyer Edward Oonge's arguments in court helped secure the release of Wadi in a record five months.
“His arguments appeared in various legal publications as one of the best ever. I am even ashamed going to see Lawyer Oonge. He is a great criminal lawyer who never gets out there to throw tantrums and seek attention like some socialites who fry their hair do,” he concludes.
