Anti-poaching operations have been heightened in national parks countrywide due to increased poaching in the last one month.

The operation comes after reports showed that four Rhinos and three Elephants have been killed bu poachers.

"Efforts to track down poachers are under-way in several parts of the country," read part of a statement released by KWS.

KWS reported that on the 20th of December 2016, four poachers shot and killed two Rhinos at Ruma National Park in Homa Bay County.

"One notorious suspected poacher was arrested and booked at Ndhiwa Police Station. He was in possession of a Rhino hoof," the statement read. 

On the 22nd of the same month three suspected poachers were intercepted by KWS patrol teams in the Taita Ranches, one suspect was gunned down and two Elephant tusks recovered.

On the 31st of the same month fire was reported by patrol teams within Ngulia Sanctuary in Tsavo West National Park and two Rhino carcasses were recovered, one poacher was gunned down and another escaped with serious wound as they engaged KWS officers.
