Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Wednesday, the affected residents accused the Ministry of Health of failing to deliver medicines in time despite promising to have done so by the beginning of May.

They challenged the Nyamira County government to expedite the acquisition of drugs since the health docket is already a devolved function therefore, vindicating the national government from any wrongdoing.

“This is a disaster and we cannot watch our brothers and sisters dying or using a lot of expenses to get medication yet they deserve to get it in Gesima. It is quite illogical that we have to travel overnight to Keroka to attend and emergency,” said Nelly Moraa who had brought her ailing mother to the hospital.

“Counties compelled the national government to devolve the function hence the Nyamira County leadership must take responsibility. We kindly appeal to them to remedy the situation,” said Abel Omwenga.

Clinical officer Ruth Ajwang confirmed the situation but reiterated that the government was aware and they had promised to handle the issue expeditiously.

“It is untrue that the situation has lasted for moths. However, the menace is real but we have informed the county health officials. Hopefully by tomorrow everything will be in order,” she said.
