Machakos Children Officer Nancy Nabwire has raised concern over high number of teenagers exposed to pornography and other explicit content. The officer says with easy access to mobile phones and internet, teenagers are easily accessing pornographic content.
Addressing the press at Mlolongo shopping center yesterday, Ms Nabwire said teenage access to pornography is a grave issue that needs to be addressed. She noted that immoral acts, rape and prostitution are to blame are a result of youths being expose to pornography.
“It is indeed worrying that most of our teenagers easily access pornographic content through their phones and magazines,” she said. The Children officer also cited social media platforms as number one source for pornography.
Nabwire urged parents and guardians to take concern on what their teenagers do online. She noted that most of the pornographic content is in form of pictures and videos. The Children official also wants the county government to get rid of video shops and pubs that are allegedly showing explicit content.
“It is evident that a large per cent of explicit content is displayed at entertainment joints that are frequented by teenagers especially on weekends,” she alleged.The official said her department will conduct sensitization forums to discourage youths from watching explicit content and create awareness about their sexuality.
