Led by Barrack Dida Mito, locals fear that they are likely to lose their livestock if immediate action is not taken. Mito said that even human beings are not spared by these flies since they also attack people living in this area.

“Those residing along the lake regions risk suffering from sleeping sickness if nothing is done,” He said.

He has appealed to the county government of Siaya to find a way of controlling the menace before it gets out of hand.

The area ward representative Johaness Andiego agreed with the residents, confirming that the Tsetse fly outbreak had hit the region quickly.

Andiego said that he had informed the county livestock and disease control department over the infestation to no avail.

“I have complained about this and nothing seems to be done,’’ he said.
