People seeking services at the Thika law courts have complained that the few social facilities at the institution are causing a lot of congestion.

Thika-based lawyer John Otieno said the court, being one of the biggest in the area, needs to have more lavatories.

“It is very disturbing when one goes to queue to answer a call of nature,” the lawyer said.

“One can also easily contract diseases since a toilet shared by many people is very hard to maintain.”

He said that if a witness has to answer a call of nature and he is expected in court in some few minutes, they may be obliged to give their statement very fast in order to go out and find a convenient place for relief.

Chief magistrate Stephen Mbungi said that they are aware of the shortage of social facilities and that plans are underway to construct more toilets for better and enhanced service delivery.

“Our core mission is to provide fair judgment to all our clients,” the magistrate said.

“We are very much interested with the satisfaction of our clients. The judiciary will ensure all the complaints about the social facilities are addressed in the shortest time possible.”

Mbungi added that they have already started preparations for a new ablution block to be constructed within the court premises.

The court has seven chambers and is served by two toilets for clients and two for the court staff.
