Business operators and residents of Njoro Township and its suburbs have petitioned the area police to step up the fight against crime, expressing fear over increasing incidences of violent robbery.
Njoro Alcohol Sellers Association Chairman Doctor Duncan Indeche and his Njoro Residents Association chairman Jackson Waweru said that massive incidences of armed robberies targeting alcohol sellers and their patrons were a thorn in the flesh of residents and business operators.
“We have noted with concern that most violent robberies are targeted at alcohol selling joints including carjacking of our patrons while they are driving home. These incidences have a serious effect on our business operations and patrons, and must be investigated and stopped at once. We must be guaranteed of security because it is our constitutional right,” noted Indeche.
He observed that despite of many reports of violent robberies that had cost tens of thousands of shillings and property to patrons and bar owners in the town, the local police had not singled out any successful investigation. Indeche urged Njoro police boss to Patrick Lai to act.
Waweru threatened that his association would mobilize residents to demonstrate against the rising insecurity to force an action from the government and law enforcers.
“We will mobilize a demonstration by Njoro residents to demonstrate our dissatisfaction over insecurity. The police station is located within the centre of the town along the highway, yet many of these crimes take place only a stone throw away from the police station,’’ said Waweru.
