Kiambu County TNA party co-ordinator and a renowned anti-drugs campaigner Gladys Chania has spoken strongly against various issues which she has said have continued to bedevil the county.
Chania, speaking in Thika Stadium on Saturday during Jamhuri Day celebrations, mentioned alcoholism, prostitution and degradation of moral values as some of the major problems that have continued to weaken the social fabric among area residents.
She regretted that despite the problems being widespread, local political and religious leaders had continued to give them a blind eye.
"Illicit brews almost wiped the entire generation of our young people till the President blew the whistle. Does it mean that the leaders on the ground were not aware?” wondered Chania.
She added: "Right now those same brews have started to re-emerge. Are we again going to keep quiet and let the merchants of death continue killing our youth?"
On prostitution, Chania alleged that there were some businesses in Thika town operating as legal businesses yet they were brothels.
"I know of a particular business in this town disguising as a pork joint while in real sense it is a brothel where our daughters are engaging in open prostitution. I've informed the relevant authorities about it and I expect they will address the matter. We need to talk about these thing without fear," Chania said.
