Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter has hit out on leaders who are against the surprise truce reached by President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga that culminated in the now famous handshake.
According to the MP who has been branded a rebel in the Jubilee party, those opposed to the handshake are afraid it might affect their 2022 political ambitions.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Wednesday at the Parliament buildings, Keter said the unity pact between the President and the opposition leader is a roadmap to uniting Kenyans.
"Many are against the handshake for their selfish interests as they are narrowminded. They want to be elected in future so they think it will affect their ambitions," noted the MP who has filed an appeal to challenge nullification of his win by an Eldoret High Court.
"We would rather remain without an election but remain united as a nation," he added.
The vocal legislator further commended the two leaders for the sacrifice they made and expressed optimism that the handshake will bear fruits to the nations development agenda.
Since the surprise handshake, a section of elected leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been expressing reservation to the unity pact with some warning that it might be a plot but the opposition chief to scuttle DP Ruto's 2022 Presidential ambitions.
