Below is a statement by Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua, after securing his re-election in the Tuesday polls.

He addressed the press, after being declared the winner with 243157 votes (53.24%), against Wavinya Ndeti of Wiper who had 203294 votes (44.52%).

"It is with great humility and honour that my Deputy Eng. Francis Maliti and I register our appreciation to the great people of Machakos for trusting us to propel the County to greater heights for another term. It has been a battle that, we, who have progressive ideas have won.

I also wish to congratulate all winners of these elections, more so H.E Uhuru Kenyatta on getting a second term as the President of the Republic of Kenya and all those that have won on Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket. You all have done the party proud.

Fellow leaders, it is important for us to learn to accept and respect the wishes and will of the people when they speak through the ballot. If aggrieved, let us follow the right channels to seek redress. Our Nation, Kenya, is greater than all of us. It is also all we have.

On that note, I wish to extend an olive branch to my opponents. The elections are now behind us, let us join hands and work together for the benefit of our people.

Special appreciation to my lovely wife Lilian, my family, campaigners, all county staff, voters and non Machakos county voters who supported and encouraged me morally and through prayers.

My people of Machakos County, we are not relenting. With my able Deputy Governor, it will be Super Maendeleo Chap Chap.Imewezekana na Itawezekana. Ahsenteni Sana, Machakos County. Mungu Atubariki."
