Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP) leader, Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua is contemplating on vying for presidency in 2022

Below is his statement, dated May 14, 2017 about the same:

''Today I have asked my Kamba community to allow me to pray and consult about their endorsement for me to be a Presidential candidate in 2022.

I made this plea at the African Inland Church (AIC), Kea, Migwani, Kitui County where I attended service.I told the congregation that I am so humbled with the honour bestowed to me by the Kamba community yesterday at Machakos People's Park when over 20,000 Kamba leaders made me a Kamba warrior and asked that I take leadership of the Akamba Nation.

I am taking this responsibility seriously.I want to assure the Kamba Council of Elders and the leaders who have faith in me that I will not let them down.

I however must add that this is not about me but about our community and our great country Kenya.

I will therefore need some time to make a decision. It is such a huge honor but I ask my supporters to allow me time to ponder over it and I will communicate in about two weeks my decision after praying, meditating and consulting widely.

I do not have a thirst for power but have a deep desire to serve. I believe that this country can one day be transformed to an amazing place to call home.

God bless you.''
