Colleges in Thika town have been urged to offer market-driven courses to cushion their graduates from unemployment facing the country.

Speaking on Thursday, Jodan College of Technology director of studies, Simon Makau said colleges that have aligned their courses to the changing industry demands offer graduates an opportunity to be absorbed into the job market.

"The strategy to offer entrepreneurial packages with bits of innovativeness has propelled its graduates to be self-employed and contribute towards the growth of the country’s economy," he said.

Makau said the total number of graduands at the institution has risen by over 100 percent since the last graduation of 306 graduates in the previous graduation December 2013.

He attributed the success of the institution to the commitment of staff and students, qualified staff, proper learning facilities and equipment, improved remuneration and performance appraisal of their staff members.

The college has embarked on a programme to offer holistic training to its graduates and make them competitive in the job market.

On Friday, the college will hold its third graduation ceremony of more than 800 graduands at the Blue Post Hotel presided over by Lands Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi.
