Deputy President William Ruto says that the Jubilee government will ensure that every victim of the 2007/08 Post Election Violence (PEV) is attended to.
Speaking to journalists from his Karen home for the first time since the termination of his crimes against humanity case at ICC, Ruto noted that the post poll violence victims have shown tremendous courage and patience in the resettlement process further expressing confident that every victim will be resettled.
“Under his (Uhuru) leadership, we will harness our efforts together to ensure we have a reconciled and prosperous Kenya,” Ruto said.
He regretted the 2007/08 post-poll violence that led to the loss of life and destruction of property, something he termed as “a dark and shameful period in the history of Kenya”.
He has further called on all Kenyans across communities, tribes and religion to collectively choose the path of reconciliation and harmony in a bid to build a united Kenya.
Ruto attributed the collapse of his case to innocence saying the two had nothing to be convicted about. ‘The only reason why the case against me and Joshua Sang collapsed is because we are innocent,’ said Ruto
“There was thus no way this case would go any other way than collapse…there was no way innocent people would pay for the violence,” Ruto said.
In February, the government disbursed Sh1.2 billion to resettle and compensate all the remaining IDPs and directed that all camps be closed.
