Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has guaranteed security for residents in the six counties as Kenyans return to polls to elect their president.Marwa said even Lamu, that has in the recent past been on the radar following a string of terrorist attacks is protected.Residents, in Lamu, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Tana River and Kilifi he said should exercise their democratic right of voting on Thursday without feeling intimidated.Coast is deemed an opposition stronghold going by the outcome of the August 8 general election where NASA leader Raila Odinga out-washed President Uhuru Kenyatta when he garnered a cumulative 801,031votes against Uhuru 287,606 in the six Coast counties.“All the six counties are safe,” Marwa said when he addressed journalists in Mombasa on Wednesday.“There should be no doubt in the mind of any Kenyan of our preparedness to ensure there is peace, especially on Thursday when they go out and vote. Voting will take place,” he added.Governors and MPs in the region allied to NASA have been campaigning against Thursday’s repeat election.ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho has been traversing the country alongside other NASA leaders telling Kenyans not to turn out and vote.NASA has maintained the repeat poll is a mockery to Kenyans as the election’s outcome is already predetermined and that the IEBC will hand over victory to Uhuru who is seeking a second term in office.
