The Senate Assembly is today, Wednesday expected to hold a special sitting to debate the controversial amendments to the Election Laws 2016, that were approved by Jubilee MPs at the National Assembly last week.
The amendments which include a manual backup system for voter identification, timeliness for the acquisition of election systems, and results transmission, were strongly opposed by the Opposition, Cord.
The Elections Laws (Amendments) Act 2016 was approved by a joint parliamentary committee on Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reforms, chaired by senators James Orengo (Siaya) and Kiraitu Murungi (Meru).
Cord has since asked senators to turn down the amendments since Jubilee intends to use it to rig 2017 polls.
