At a time when the Nairobi county gubernatorial position is continuing to attract interest from majority of Kenyans, former Budalang'i MP Raphael Wanjala has declared that everyone was free to vie for the coveted seat, adding that Nairobi belongs to all people.

This comes after there has been a heated debate following the declaration by Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa that he will be going for the seat in the 2017 elections.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the Nzoia Sugar Company, Wanjala said that Nairobi has many tribes as compared to other counties where only one tribe may be dominant.

"I want to thank all the leaders and those people who have proposed our brother Wamalwa to run because they are showing us that Nairobi is not for a single tribe who think that they are so special that they call Nairobi their yard," said Wanjala.

"All those many businesses and buildings in Nairobi belong to different people and those who are lying to themselves that Nairobi is for a specific tribe are wrong," the former lawmaker added.

According to Wanjala, all Kenyans are free to vie for any seat in the country's richest city as long as they have the qualities to lead.
