President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on all leaders to be crusaders of peace this year with the general elections slated for August fast approaching.
Speaking in Kapseret Uasin Gishu County on Monday during the burial of former politician Mark Too, the president said it was important to maintain peace to avoid violence that was witnessed after the 2007/08 period.
The president further called on leaders and Kenyans in general to emulate Mark Too, who was a crusader of peace at all times during his political heydays.
"Let all leaders in the country campaign for peace in the country. August is fast approaching and we should be careful on where we tread. Let all leaders emulate Mark Too who championed for peace on all of his political events," said President Kenyatta.
The president's sentiments were echoed by the Deputy President William Ruto who also asked the nation and more so political leaders to ensure they preach peace to avoid violence after this year's polls.
"It is important to uphold peace at all times. The country was in a bad state after the 2007 general elections and that is not the way to go," said Ruto.
