As Kenya celebrates the 54th Madaraka Day, today, June 1, 2017, Nyeri county is ready to host the event.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto are scheduled to preside over the event, alongside a host of invited dignitaries, and government officials.

Nyeri county government hired local artisans to prepare Kabiruini ASK Showground, ahead of the big day, with more than 30,000 people including locals, expected to attend.

Local traders and hotel owners expressed happiness, saying the national government did a noble thing, to host the event in the Central Kenya county, since they will have an opportunity for business.

Normally, such national events have been taking place in the capital city, Nairobi, but the president said, he would take advantage of the Devolution government, to allow counties enjoy hosting the events.

The Opposition is as well expected in the county for the celebrations, which is last for the Jubilee government's, first term.

Nasa chief campaigner, ANC party leader and co-principal Musalia Mudavadi, had earlier affirmed that the pentagon would head to Nyeri for the fete.

Ann Ng’etich, Central Regional commissioner, affirmed that security would be enhanced.
