President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto will on Wednesday attend an interdenominational prayer service for 47 victims of Patel Dam tragedy.
The service is expected to start at 9.00am next to Solai AIC church which is located next to Energy village that was swept away by flood water from the dam.
Rift Valley regional commissioner Mongo Chimwanga said preparations were complete by Tuesday night.
“The service is expected to proceed until 12 noon after which relatives will be allowed to inter some of the bodies,” said the RC.
Two bodies will be transported to Laikipia and Bomet counties respectively while other bodies will be buried in Energy and Ruiru villages in Solai.
Mongo said a decision on whether some bodies will be buried in a mass grave will be made after consultations with the family members.
According to Chimwanga, the funeral organizing committee cannot compel families of the victims on how to bury their victims and that those who wish to bury their loved ones in individual farms will be allowed to do so.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said the county government of Nakuru has catered for all funeral expenses including purchase of coffins, postmortem and transport of family members.
