The county government of Kisumu is organising for a comprehensive programme of activities to commemorate World Tourism Day slated for September 27.The proposed activities to be carried out include town clean up exercise, tree planting, visits to tourism attraction sites, cultural events, street procession and short speeches on tourism sustainability.Addressing the press, Acting County Chief Officer, Department of Tourism indicated that it would be the first time for the national government's Ministry of Tourism, to allow Kisumu and Mombasa counties to hold their own organised World Tourism Day."Kisumu has been chosen because it is the entry point to the East African Community," he said, Friday.

Deputy Governor Dr Ochieng Owili, on behalf of Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, officiated the media launch of the World Tourism Day at Impala Sanctuary in Kisumu, where he reiterated the need to put Kisumu in the map as the best tourist destination in Kenya and Eastern Africa.Official celebrations of World Tourism Day 2017 will be held in Qatar as decided by the UNWTO General Assembly.
