Mukunga Muchiri, an English and Literature teacher has taken over Kenya’s academic giant, Alliance High School, days after revelation of shocking incidents of bullying.
Immediate former principal David Kariuki went for an early retirement to pursue ‘other’ interests, a move that has since been linked with bullying claims that went unnoticed for many years.
Six students were arraigned in Kikuyu court and released on Sh20, 000 bail as the police continue with investigations.
“As BOM, we have no issue with Mukunga taking over the institution. He has been here for long and we believe he will make us proud,” said Chairman Donald Kaniaru.
Until his promotion, Mr. Muchiri was first Deputy Principal and has taught in the Kenya’s oldest institution for 26 years.
Chairman of Old Boys Club Mugo Kibati welcomed the decision and challenged the new boss to clear the system by introducing alternative means of handling unruly students.
“We don’t encourage bullying and we are hopeful that this is the end of such uncouth incidents if at all they existed,” he said on Sunday during the institution’s 91 anniversary.
While Moocher will be acting principal before the confirmation by TSC, Julius Negev, a history teacher, will take over as the First Deputy Principal.
