The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has been asked to ensure that it considers youth, women, and people with disabilities (PWDs) when giving out tenders for the supply of tree seedlings.

Uasin Gishu Deputy governor Daniel Chemno says KFS being part of the government institutions is bound by law to allocate 30 percent of its procurement to people with special interests.

Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Chemno further reiterated the need for KFS to involve every Kenyan in its tree planting exercises and environmental conservation initiatives.

"We want KFS to be giving youth, women, and people with disabilities their share of 30 percent in procurement when it comes to tree seedlings supply. This is a presidential directive and they were a government entity is bound to it," Chemno said.

"KFS need to work hand in hand with us in identifying individuals that should get that procurement to achieve the 30 percent for special interest groups," he added.

The Deputy governor further reiterated the need for KFS to work closely with devolved units in all its projects.

"Counties cannot be isolated in three planting issues and we need to be working closely especially as we move to achieve the 10 percent forest cover nationally by 2030," he added.
